Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII)

An add-on to your CFI — teach instrument students.

This is an add-on course to an existing Flight Instructor certificate. The CFII allows you to teach the Instrument Rating and give instrument proficiency checks — and it makes you far more employable, because instrument students are a large share of every school's flying.

Training concentrates on teaching instrument procedures from the right seat: scanning, approaches, holds, and the decision-making that keeps IFR flights safe.

What you'll learn

  • Teaching instrument scan, interpretation, and control
  • Teaching approaches, holds, and IFR procedures
  • Instrument proficiency checks
  • Review for the FII written and the checkride

Where this takes you

  • Teach instrument students and fly in all weather
  • Eligible for the sponsored ratings under the 40-Hour Challenge
  • Full-time CFI/CFII employment eligibility at OCFC

Requirements

A current FAA Flight Instructor certificate, airplane category (ASE or AME). A valid 3rd Class medical — BasicMed is acceptable. FII written exam passed (preferred, not required).
